Ice cream is one of the most popular foods in the world, appreciated by young and old, especially in the summer months. It can be enjoyed as a dessert or as a snack, on a cone or in a convenient cup. Everyone thinks of Italy when you mention ice-cream and the Italian know that they make the best in the world.
One of the most popular flavors is Stracciatella (vanilla cream and chocolate flakes), which was born right in Italy in Bergamo, a historic city not far from Milan.
It was 1961 when Mr. Enrico Panattoni bought the “La Marianna” bar. He started to produce ice cream and during one of his experiments he decided to combine the Fiordilette (vanilla cream) with melted dark chocolate which was “torn” by the blades of the batch freezer as it solidified. The visual effect looked like the “Stracciatella alla romana”, soup in which the egg is beaten in the broth and Panattoni decided to name the flavour the same! Stracciatella ice cream quickly became a favourite flavour and soon spread throughout Italy and the world.
The ice cream parlors that produce the real Stracciatella have the “La Stracciatella il gelato di Bergamo” trademark. The brand’s goal is to identify, disseminate and enhance this artisan product and a supply chain linked to the territory.
We can organize a trip to Bergamo for your group, which is an incredible city to visit and we will include a tour among the Stracciatella ice cream parlors and organize a workshop for your group to learn how to produce the real Stracciatella icer-cream.
