Lake Maggiore is a real enchanted pearl and it’s about an hours drive away from Milan.

Every year from July to September, the shores of the Lake host the Stresa and Lake Maggiore Music Weeks, which are part of the European Festival Association. In the symbolic locations of Lake Maggiore and in the historical churches, amazing classical music concerts are held. In short, a true mix of music, art, culture and breathtaking scenery that characterize this area.

But when was this Festival born? Its origins date back to 1961 thanks to the noble Italo Trentinaglia de Daverio, who has always been passionate about music thanks to his father Erardo, director of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Mr. Trentinaglia owned a family home in Stresa, one of the most famous and appreciated towns on Lake Maggiore. In this house he used to host great artists and musicians, including Arturo Toscanini, who were fascinated by the beauty of this area. Mr. Trentinaglia therefore decided to give life to an annual and internationally renowned classical music festival based in Stresa.

Apart from Stresa, the most suggestive locations to attend the concerts are: the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, the Auditorium “La Fabbrica” of Villadossola, the Visconteo Castle of Vogogna, the Rocca Borromeo di Angera, Villa Ponti in Arona, Villa San Remigio and the Madonna di Campagna Church in Verbania, the Old Church of Belgirate and the Basilica of San Giulio in Orta.

So how about an aperitif or a sunset dinner by the lake accompanied by a classical music concert?
